Seafarer medical certificates to the flag state's own requirements, issued by an approved maritime doctor in Esbjerg.
A ship sails under a country's flag, and that country decides what medical requirements the crew must meet. If you sail on a ship registered in Liberia, the Marshall Islands, Malta, Belgium or Vanuatu, your medical certificate must meet that register's requirements, not only the Danish ones.
Liberia and the Marshall Islands are two of the world's largest open registers, and many shipping companies with Danish crew sail under their flags. Vanuatu is a smaller register following the same principle. Malta is the largest ship register in Europe, and Belgium applies when the ship sails under the Belgian flag.
The ILO certificate follows the international convention on seafarers' working conditions and is used where the company asks for a widely recognised certificate rather than one particular flag state's form.
